#2 Utica Pioneers earns NCAA Tournament first-round bye

The second-ranked Utica Pioneers Men’s Hockey Team (23-2-3 overall, 19-0-1 UCHC) earned a birth in the NCAA Men’s Division III Hockey Tournament on Saturday night when they won the UCHC Tournament. On Monday, the NCAA announced the Pioneers have also earned a first-round bye in the national tournament.

With the bye, Utica won’t play until Saturday, March 16 when they will host the winner of the Cortland Red Dragons vs Plymouth St. Panthers this Saturday at Plymouth St.

Utica Pioneers win third consecutive UCHC crown

The thirteenth-ranked Red Dragons earned their NCAA Tournament birth via their SUNYAC Tournament win. They have an overall record of 18-8-2 and were 10-5-1 in the SUNYAC.

Plymouth St. has an overall record of 23-2-2 and 18-1-2 in the MASCAC. They won their fifth consecutive MASCAC title to earn their way into the NCAA Tournament. They are currently ranked ninth in the USCHO poll.

    Utica, NY. –  Utica Comets General Manager, Dan MacKinnon, announced today that the team has signed forward, Jack Malone, to an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
