#3 Colgate Raiders Women’s Hockey at RPI game preview

The third-ranked Colgate Raiders Women’s Hockey Team travels to RPI on Friday night to open its ECAC schedule.

After having a bye week that gave them a chance to rest and recuperate, the #3 Colgate Raiders return to action on Friday. They will square off against ECAC rival RPI at the Houston Field House in Troy, NY.

The Raiders are off to a great start for the 2023-24 season. Through six games, they are 5-1-0 and have a victory over #2 Ohio St. and a pair of victories over #15 Penn St. and Mercyhurst. The Lakers received votes in the latest USCHO Women’s Division I poll.

Part of the reason the Raiders are off to such a hot start is the offense is firing on all cylinders. They are fourth in Division I in goals per game, with an average of 4.3. Leading the charge is senior forward Kalty Kaltounková. She has seven goals and seven assists through six games played and her fourteen points place her fifth in the country. Kaltounková also leads the potent Raiders offense in shots and power-play goals.

The special teams and goaltending have also been superb for Colgate. The power play is operating at a 40% efficiency rate, which ties them first with defending national champion Wisconsin. The Raiders penalty kill is at 93.3%, and they have only given up one goal – an astounding feat given the quality of the opponents they have played thus far.

A look at the Colgate Raiders Women’s Hockey 2023-24 schedule

The Raiders got outstanding goaltending from Kayle Osborne and Hannah Murphy last season, and that trend has continued in 2023-24. Osborne is undefeated thus far with a record of 3-0-0 and has a save percentage of 0.952. Murphy has kept pace with a record of 2-1-0 and a 0.939 save percentage (her loss was to Ohio St.). Again, given the high quality of the Raider’s opponents so far, these numbers are phenomenal.
