#5 Utica Pioneers Men’s Hockey shuts down Nazareth

It was lucky sevens for the fifth-ranked Utica Pioneers Men’s Hockey Team on Friday night, as they defeated UCHC rival the Nazareth Golden Flyers 7-0 for their seventh consecutive victory. With the win, the Pioneers improve their record to 13-2-3 overall and 12-0-1 in the UCHC. They also remain in sole possession of first place in the UCHC standings.

Forward Shane Murphy scored the game’s first goal and his first three on the night at the 6:47 mark of the first period. Khristian Acosta lit the lamp just over a minute later to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead they would take into the first intermission.

#9 Utica Pioneers Women edged by Nazareth 3-2

Defenseman Brian Scoville scored the only goal of the second period to extend his points streak to six games. With two assists to go along with his second-period goal, Scoville now has two goals and twelve assists in his points streak.

The Pioneers blew the game open with four third-period goals. Murphy got his second goal of the game 1:24 after the opening faceoff, followed by Eric Vitale’s fifth goal of the season at the 7:26 mark. Matt Wood scored the Pioneer’s sixth goal with just under eight minutes remaining, and Murphy completed his hat trick with 5:10 left to close out the victory. Murphy also assisted on Wood’s goal to give him four points for the game.

Bryan Landsberger made 26 saves in goal for the Pioneers. He now has a record of 5-0-0 with a 0.97 GAA, 0.963 save percentage, and two shutouts.
