Central New York college teams in the USCHO polls – Jan. 8, 2024

The Central New York region is well represented in the USCHO polls for January 8, 2024. Seven teams are either in the top fifteen or received votes.

Women’s Division I

The Colgate Raiders (17-3-1 overall, 9-1-0 ECAC).

This week’s ranking: #5.

Last week’s ranking: #4.

The Raiders dropped one spot in this week’s poll to #5 from #4. They split of pair of games at home this past weekend against nationally ranked top ten ECAC opponents. On Friday night, they defeated #10 St. Lawrence 7-3. On Saturday afternoon they suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Clarkson Golden Knights.

This week’s games:

The Raiders host the Syracuse Orange on Tuesday, January 9 at 11:30 am for a special kids day game. On Friday night they face the eighth ranked Cornell Big Red at Lynah Rink in Ithaca. The Raiders the. host a rematch with the Big Red on Saturday afternoon.

#4 Colgate defeats #10 St. Lawrence

Men’s Division III

The Utica Pioneers (8-2-3 overall, 7-0-1 UCHC).

This week’s rank: #7.

Last week’s rank: #7.

The Pioneers remain at #7 in this week’s Men’s Division III poll. Last weekend, the Pioneers swept a pair of games from UCHC rival the Manhattanville Valiants. For their efforts in those games, forward Drake Morse was named the UCHC Rookie of the Week, and Bryan Landsberger was named the UCHC Goaltender of the Week.

This week’s games:

The Pioneers go on the road for a pair of games against another UCHC rival, the Neumann Knights. They play on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

The Hamilton College Continentals (9-3-0 overall, 5-2-0 NESCAC).

This week’s ranking: unranked, but received eleven votes.

Last week’s ranking: unranked but received votes.

The Continentals split a pair of conference games on their home ice over the past weekend. On Friday night, they defeated Colby 4-2. On Saturday afternoon, they were shutout by Bowdoin 2-0.

This week’s games:

The Continentals remain in the friendly confines of Sage Rink for two more NESCAC games. On Friday night, they host the Connecticut College Camels. On Saturday afternoon, the Tufts Jumbos come to town.

The Oswego St. Lakers (8-6-1 overall, 6-2-0 SUNYAC):

This week’s ranking: unranked but received one vote.

Last week’s ranking: unranked but received votes.

The Lakers had a tough weekend last week while hosting the Oswego St. Hockey Classic. On Saturday night, they were tripped up by Concordia 8-5. The following day, they tied SUNYAC rival Cortland in the consolation game of the tournament.

This week’s game:

Oswego St. plays just once this week. On Tuesday morning at 11:00 am, they host an Education Day game against Nazareth from the UCHC.

Women’s Division III

The Hamilton College Continentals (7-3-1 overall, 2-3-1 NESCAC).

This week’s ranking: #7.

Last week’s ranking: #7.

The Continentals split a pair of NESCAC games on the road against #11 Colby last weekend. On Friday night, they fell to the Mules by a score of 2-1. On Saturday afternoon, the Continentals got some payback – defeating the Mules 3-2 in overtime.

This week’s games:

Hamilton plays three games and they’re all on the road. On Tuesday night, they travel to Elmira to face the eleventh ranked Soaring Eagles. They then play a pair of games at NESCAC rival the Williams Ephs on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

The Utica Pioneers (11-1-2 overall, 8-0-2 UCHC).

This week’s ranking: #10.

Last week’s ranking: #9.

Despite winning both of their games last weekend, the Pioneers dropped one spot in this week’s poll. They defeated UCHC rival the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Friday night and Saturday afternoon by scores of 3-1 and 4-1.

Utica Pioneers Men and Women complete weekend sweeps

This week’s games:

The Pioneers remain on the road for two more UCHC games. They face the Stevenson Mustangs on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

The Oswego St. Lakers (6-6-1 overall, 4-3-1 SUNYAC).

This week’s ranking: unranked but received one vote.

Last week’s ranking: unranked.

The Lakers hosted the fifth ranked Plattsburgh St Cardinals for a pair of games last weekend. They upset their SUNYAC rivals by a score of 3-2 on Friday night. They lost the rematch on Saturday 4-1.

This week’s games:

Oswego stays at home for two more SUNYAC games over the weekend. They host the SUNY Potsdam Bears on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
