Central New York teams in the USCHO polls 01-15-2024

The latest USCHO polls were released on January 15, 2024, and Central New York is represented in three of them. Seven teams are either in the top fifteen or received at least one vote.

Division I – Women

The Colgate Raiders (20-3-1 overall, 11-1-0 ECAC).

This week’s ranking: #4.

Last week’s ranking: #5.

After winning three games last week, the Raiders moved up one spot to number four. On Tuesday, they defeated regional rival, Syracuse Orange 12-0 (The #5 Colgate Raiders rout Syracuse on Tuesday). They continued their winning ways on Friday and Saturday by sweeping a home in-home series against #8 Cornell.

This week’s games:

The Raiders hit the road for two more ECAC games. On Friday night they visit former Clinton High School standout Mia Lopata and the #6 Quinnipiac Bobcats. Colgate defeated Quinnipiac 4-1 in their first meeting of the season at the Class of 1965 Arena on November 18.

The road trip continues on Saturday afternoon at #12 Princeton. The Raiders won their first game against the Tigers 7-1 on November 17 at the Class of 1965 Arena.

Division III – Men

The Utica Pioneers (10-2-3 overall, 9-0-1 UCHC).

This week’s ranking: #6.

Last week’s ranking: #7.

The Pioneers jumped up one spot in this USCHO after not allowing a goal in a two-game sweep of Neumann last weekend. On Friday night they won 4-0 and on Saturday afternoon 5-0. Both of those games were played on the road.

This week’s games:

The Pioneers return to Utica for a pair of games against another UCHC rival, the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen. On Friday night the teams will square off at the Utica University Nexus Center. On Saturday night the rematch will be next door at the Adirondack Bank Center.

The Hamilton College Continentals (9-4-1 overall, 5-3-1 NESCAC).

This week’s ranking: unranked, but received one vote.

Last week’s ranking: unranked, but received eleven votes.

The Continentals lost and tied in the two games they played at home last weekend against NESCAC opponents. On Friday night, they lost a heartbreaker at Sage Rink, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Connecticut College Camels. The next afternoon, Hamilton used a three-goal third period to salvage a tie against the Tufts Jumbos.

This week’s games:

Hamilton will hit the road and play at home all in the same weekend. On Friday night, they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to face NESCAC rival the Amherst Mammoths. On Saturday night, they return to Sage Rink to take on the #2 Geneseo Ice Knights of the SUNYAC.

The Oswego St. Lakers (9-6-1 overall, 6-2-0 SUNYAC).

This week’s ranking: unranked, but received one vote.

Last week’s ranking: unranked, but received one vote.

Oswego played just one game last week. They defeated Nazareth of the UCHC at home by a score of 4-1.

This week’s games:

The Lakers head to western New York for a pair of SUNYAC games. On Friday night they face the Fredonia Blue Devils. Oswego won the first matchup of the season between the teams 4-1 at home on November 3.

The next night, the Lakers will visit the Buffalo State Bengals. Oswego won the first game of the season between the teams 4-0 at home on November 4.

Division III – Women

The Hamilton College Continentals (10-3-1 overall, 4-3-1 NESCAC).

This week’s ranking: #7.

Last week’s ranking: #7.

The Continentals remained at #7 in this week’s poll after winning a pair of close games at NESCAC rival the Williams Ephs. On Friday night, Hamilton prevailed 1-0 in overtime on a Claire McGennis goal. On Saturday afternoon, the Continentals won 3-2 on yet another Claire McGennis game-winning goal.

This week’s games:

Hamilton plays just one game next week. On Tuesday, they travel to Oswego to face the Oswego St. Lakers of the SUNYAC.

The Utica Pioneers (13-1-2 overall, 10-0-2 UCHC).

This week’s ranking: #10.

Last week’s ranking: #10.

The Pioneers continued their UCHC dominance last weekend, taking both games they played at the Stevenson Mustangs. On Friday night, they defeated their hosts 9-0, with Maddie Esposito getting her first win and shutout of the season in goal. The next day, they continued to pour it on – taking down Stevenson 7-1. Seven different Pioneers lit the lamp in that game.

Next week’s game:

Utica plays just one game in the coming week. On Friday night they travel to Oswego to face regional rival the Oswego St. Lakers of the SUNYAC.

Utica Pioneers Men’s and Women’s Hockey roll through the weekend

The Oswego St. Lakers (8-6-1 overall, 6-3-1 SUNYAC).

This week’s ranking: unranked, but received one vote.

Last week’s ranking: unranked, but received one vote.

The Lakers had a very good weekend, sweeping SUNYAC rival Potsdam in a two-game series at home. On Friday night, they took down the Bears 5-2. The next day they defeated their guests 5-0, with goaltender Hannah Skavnak making twenty saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

This week’s games:

Oswego will host a pair of games against top ten teams. On Tuesday, the seventh-ranked Hamilton College Continentals come to town. On Friday afternoon, #10 Utica will visit Oswego.
