Central New York teams in the USCHO polls 02-05-2024

The latest USCHO polls were released on February 5, 2024, and Central New York has five teams in three of the four polls. The teams are either in the top fifteen or received votes. To see all of the USCHO polls, visit https://uscho.com.

Division I – Women

The Colgate Raiders (24-5-1 overall, 15-3-0 ECAC).

This week’s ranking: #4.

Last week’s ranking: #3.

The Raiders traveled north this weekend for a pair of very difficult games against ECAC foes. On Friday night, they visited Cheel Arena and fell to the third-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights 3-1. The next afternoon the scene shifted to Appleton Arena where Colgate lost to the seventh-ranked St. Lawrence Saints 3-2 in overtime. The Raiders are now in a rare two-game losing streak.

This week’s games:

Colgate returns home for two more ECAC games. On Friday night, they host the Union Garnet Chargers. On Saturday afternoon, the RPI Engineers will pay a visit to the Class of 1965 Arena. For more information about Colgate Raiders hockey, visit https://colgateathletics.com.

Division III – Men

The Utica Pioneers (16-2-3 overall, 15-0-1 UCHC).

This week’s ranking: #2.

Last week’s ranking: #3.

The Pioneers jumped up one spot to number two in this week’s USCHO poll after sweeping a two-game series from King’s College on the road by a combined score of 16-0. Junior forward Matt Wood had three goals and three assists for the weekend and earned the UCHC Co-Player of the Week award. Freshman forward Eric Vitale had a combined four goals and three assists earning him the UCHC Rookie of the Week honors.

This week’s games:

Utica returns home to the Adirondack Bank Center for a pair of UCHC games against the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Friday and Saturday nights. Both games start at 7:00 pm.

The Hamilton College Continentals13-6-1 overall, 8-5-1 NESCAC).

This week’s ranking: unranked, but received three votes.

Last week’s ranking: unranked, but received seven votes.

The Continentals split a pair of NESCAC games on the road this past weekend. On Friday night they defeated the Colby Mules 3-1. On Saturday afternoon they visited the Bowdoin Polar Bears where they dropped a 3-2 decision.

This week’s games:

The NESCAC road trip continues this weekend for the Continentals. On Friday night they take on the Connecticut College Camels. On Saturday afternoon they head to Malden, Massachusetts to take on the Tufts Jumbos.

Division III – Women

The Hamilton College Continentals (12-4-4 overall, 5-4-3 NESCAC).

This week’s ranking: #8.

Last week’s ranking: #8.

Hamilton played a pair of games at home last weekend against NESCAC rival the Bowdoin Polar Bears. On Friday night, the teams skated to a 1-1 draw. On Saturday afternoon the Continentals skated away with a 2-0 victory over the Polar Bears.

This week’s games:

The NESCAC homestand continues this weekend for the Continentals. The Connecticut College Camels visit Sage Rink for a pair of games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. For more information about Hamilton College Continentals hockey, visit https://athletics.hamilton.edu.

The Utica Pioneers (16-3-2 overall, 12-2-2 UCHC).

This week’s ranking: #14.

Last week’s ranking: #13.

The Pioneers swept UCHC rival the Chatham Cougars last Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, they took down the Cougars 5-1. On Saturday afternoon, they finished the two-game sweep with a 7-1 victory. Carolyn Whitney had a combined three goals and four assists for the weekend, earning her the UCHC Co-Player of the Week.

#13 Utica Women’s Hockey defeats Chatham 7-1

This week’s games:

Utica heads to Pennsylvania for two more UCHC games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon against the Arcadia Knights.
