Central New York Women’s college teams have a big night

#4 Colgate, #8 Hamilton College, and Morrisville all pick up wins on Tuesday night in Central New York Women’s College Hockey.

Four Central New York Women’s college hockey teams were in action on Tuesday night, and three entered the winner’s column. The fourth-ranked Colgate Raiders won big on the road against Syracuse, and the eighth-ranked Hamilton College Continentals won an overtime thriller at home against #14 Nazareth. The Morrisville Mustangs began the day by defeating Arcadia at the Morrisville Ice Plex.

Colgate 9, Syracuse 0

The Raiders and Orange met at Tennity Ice Pavilion for a regional rivalry matchup that marked each team’s game before the end of the semester break. Colgate was coming off a pair of games at #6 Minnesota-Duluth in which they lost one game and tied the other. The Orange split a pair of games against CHA rival RIT last weekend.

Colgate got back on track in a big way with a 9-0 win over their hosts. Neena Brick had a spectacular game, scoring four goals and one assist to lead all scorers. Kaia Malachino and Sydney Morrow each registered three assists as well.

The Raiders outshot the Orange 65-11, with Colgate goaltender Hannah Murphy picking up the shutout victory. Colgate now has an overall record of 14-2-1, while the Orange fall to 4-14-2.

Hamilton 2, Nazareth 1 F/OT

A pair of ranked teams met at Russell Sage Rink on Tuesday night as the eighth-ranked Hamilton College Continentals hosted the fourteenth-ranked Nazareth Golden Flyers. It was a rematch of last season’s NCAA Tournament first-round game, which was won by the Continentals 3-1.

#6 Hamilton College skates to a draw with Trinity

Tuesday night’s matchup was won by Hamilton as well in a 2-1 overtime thriller. Abby Smith scored at just thirty-five seconds into overtime to give her team its fourth win in their past five games. Nazareth took the first lead of the game on a first-period goal by Abby Flanagan. The home team answered eleven minutes later on a marker by Claire McGennis to close out the scoring until overtime.

The Continentals outshot the Golden Flyers 31-19. Mac Donovan made eighteen saves to earn the win in goal. Their overall record now stands at 4-2-1.

Morrisville 4, Arcadia 1

The Morrisville Mustangs picked up their second consecutive win on Tuesday, defeating the Arcadia Knights 4-1.

Kennedy Kirkby led the way for the Mustangs with a hat trick, and Zoe Leas scored the other Morrisville goal. Madison Tompkins assisted on two of Kirkby’s goals. Kirkby and Leas also scored in last Tuesday’s 7-1 win over King’s College.

Elizabeth Timby made twenty-six saves to earn her second straight win. The Mustang’s overall record is now 6-5-0. Tuesday’s contest was Morrisville’s last game before their end-of-the-semester break.
