Serdachny scores twice as Raiders beat Bears, 5-1

HAMILTON – Four Raiders poured in multi-point performances in Colgate’s 5-1 victory against Brown on Friday afternoon in the ECAC Playoff Quarterfinals. Fifth-year captain Danielle Serdachny led the way with two scores and an assist while the defensive pair of Sydney Morrow and Sydney Bard added two helpers each.

Kaitlyn O’Donohoe put the Raiders on the board first, preventing a scoreless opening frame by tapping in a perfect pass from Avery Pickering with 20 seconds left before intermission.

Despite Colgate hounding the Bears on the forecheck and peppering goalie Kaley Doyle with 26 shots on goal through the first 30 minutes, the score held at 1-0 halfway through the second period

That was until Morrow snuck behind the defense and fed Dara Greig with a pinpoint pass, allowing the senior forward to tally her first point of the night when she slotted the puck far side, just inches in front of Doyle’s outstretched glove.

Serdachny capitalized on a Brown delayed penalty three minutes later, poking in her first goal to put the Raiders ahead by three. The Bears cut the deficit to two heading into the final stanza, but that was as close as Serdachny would allow the visitors to get.

The Colgate captain potted her second snipe of the night when she weaved between four Brown defenders and unleashed a wrister from the slot to reassert the three-goal lead.

After the Bears resorted to an empty net with eight minutes to play, Kas Betinol cashed in from center ice to put a cap on Colgate’s first postseason win of 2024.
