Colgate Raiders Men’s Hockey returns on Friday night

The Colgate Raiders return from their end-of-the-semester break on Friday night for a two-game set at the #7 Maine Black Bears.

After an up-and-down first half to their season, the Colgate Raiders return for the second half on Friday night. They make an eight-hour trip northeast to Orono, Maine to take on the seventh-ranked Maine Black Bears. The teams will also square off on Saturday night.

The Raiders are coming out of the break with an overall record of 6-8-2 (3-4-1 in the ECAC). They have a record of 1-6-2 at home but are a very different team on the road. They are 5-2-0 away from the Class of 1965 Arena.

Going into Friday night’s game against Maine, the Raiders are in fifth place in the twelve-team ECAC. Although they are not quite at .500 in their conference record, they hold a shootout victory over then #20 Harvard. The Raiders also closed out the first half of their season with a 4-2 win at #16 Cornell.

The Raiders and Black Bears played a pair of games last season at the Class of 1965 Arena. Colgate won the first game 5-2, and the teams skated to a 1-1 tie the next night. The Raiders lead the overall series between the teams 8-6-4 and are 3-0-2 in their last five games against Maine.

This season, Maine is vastly improved over the team that went 15-16-5 last season. They are currently ranked seventh in Division I, sporting an overall record of 12-3-0 (5-2-1 Hockey East). The Black Bears have won six games in a row, and are an impressive 6-0-1 at home.

The key to success for the Black Bears is they have excelled on both offense and defense this season. They are ninth in Division I in goals per game, and eleventh in goals against per game. Individually, they are led on offense by freshmen brothers Bradly and Josh Nadeau, who lead the team in all major offensive categories. Bradly is a 2023 first-round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Both games this weekend begin at 7:00 p.m. and are available on ESPN+. For more information about Colgate Raiders hockey, visit
