Kaltounkova Sets Career Goals Record in 3-0 Win

HAMILTON – The NCAA’s points leader Kristýna Kaltounková added another accolade to her amazing 2023-24 season, vaulting into the top spot for most career goals scored in Colgate women’s hockey history. Her two goals on Saturday afternoon propelled No. 5 Colgate to a 3-0 blanking of No. 8/9 Cornell at the Class of 1965 Arena.

“Kalty is a great player,” teammate Elyssa Biederman said. “She’s an amazing player to play with. When the puck’s coming off her stick it’s probably going in the net.”

Nothing came easy for either side in the early going, but Kaltounková seized the momentum for Colgate when she successfully intercepted a puck in the Raiders’ offensive zone. She easily capitalized on the shootout-style breakaway, scoring her 78th career goal to break the program record for career goals previously held by Heather Murphy ’02.

Two minutes later, first-year Madeline Palumbo buried a snipe from the left faceoff circle after Kaitlyn O’Donohoe successfully weaved a pass through two Big Red defenders.

Colgate was not done, however, as Kaltounková scooped up a rebounded puck off a Neena Brick shot and netted her Division I leading 11th power-play goal of the season.

The three first-period goals would be the only scores of the game as the Raiders looked to netminder Hannah Murphy to take the reins from there. She answered the bell, making 20 saves, three with less than eight minutes left on a Big Red power play, to give Colgate its ninth win against a ranked opponent this season.

The Raiders hit the road next weekend where they will take on Quinnipiac Friday night at 6 p.m. and Princeton at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will air live on ESPN+.
