Hartford Wolfpack at Utica Comets game preview 11-04-2023

The Hartford Wolfpack visit the Adirondack Bank Center for the only time in the regular season on Saturday night.

The Hartford Wolfpack and Utica Comets will square off for a rare matchup on Saturday night. The teams will only meet twice in the regular season – the rematch will be in Hartford on March 24th.

The Wolfpack, who are the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, are in second place in the Atlantic Division. They had been led on offense by Jonny Brodzonski, whose eleven points ranked tenth in the league. He was recalled to the Rangers on Friday, and the Wolfpack were without his services in the team’s 5-4 overtime loss at Lehigh Valley on Friday night.

The Rangers also recalled goaltender Louis Domingue, who has a record of 3-1-0 for the team this season.

Even without Brodzinski, the Wolfpack will still bring firepower into Saturday night’s game. Defenseman Mac Hollowell has nine points and has registered at least one point in all eight of the team’s games this season. Forward Alex Belzile is also currently on a seven-game points streak. The former long-time member of the Laval Rocket also has nine points this season.

Hollowell and Belzile won’t be the only ones riding points streaks going into Saturday night’s game. Red-hot Xavier Parent of the Comets has points in his last four games and four goals over his last two. He has been an integral part of the two-game winning streak the team is currently on.

Another Comet who has been outstanding not only over the last week but all season is goaltender Issac Poulter. He has backstopped Utica during the current winning streak, including twenty-nine saves in Friday night’s 4-3 overtime victory over the high-flying Rochester Americans. Poulter is second in the AHL in save percentage and sixth in GAA.

Both teams have been outstanding in the third period. Hartford has outscored their opponents 14-5 in the final frame while Utica is at 9-5. Here’s the tale of the tape for Saturday night’s game between the Hartford Wolfpack and Utica Comets.
