The Morrisville Mustangs Men’s Hockey Team opens their 2023-24 regular season at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Morrisville IcePlex will be abuzz with excitement on Saturday afternoon as Mustangs hockey returns for the 2023-24 season. The hometown Mustangs will host the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen of the UCHC starting at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

The Mustangs will once again play out of the SUNYAC conference, which is in the final season of its current configuration. Although there are no reported plans for Morrisville planning to exit the conference, teams such as Geneseo and Brockport are beginning next season.

Kevin Krogol returns for his eleventh season as Head Coach of the team. He will have a new assistant this season, as Andrew Veglucci has returned to his native Long Island to take a position with LIU. Taking his place is Ryan Pascarella – who comes to Morrisville from the El Paso Rhinos of the North American Hockey League.

The 2022-23 edition of the Mustangs had an overall record of 8-17-0, with a SUNYAC mark of 4-12-0.

The Roster

Last season’s team was a young team – with over half of the roster being made up of sophomores and first-year players. Those players now have more experience and this season’s Mustangs team has twelve seniors on the roster.

Trevor “The Great” Grasby (I made that nickname up, but I couldn’t resist the literary reference) is the team captain this season. Grasby is entering his third season as a Mustang.

Morrisville returns all five of its top five scorers from last season. Cameron Clark led the way with twelve goals and fifteen assists for twenty-seven points. Rounding out the top five are:

  • Curtis Abbott: 9 goals + 9 assists = 18 points
  • Chris Mott: 8 goals + 8 assists = 16 points
  • Trevor Grasby: 7 goals + 8 assists = 15 points
  • Trevor Neumann: 9 goals + 5 assists = 14 points

All three of Morrisville’s goaltenders from 2022-23 are back for this season. Ryan Creenan made the most starts last season, but Grant Linville and Garrett Boyonoski will compete for playing time as well.

The Schedule

The Mustangs will once again play a twenty-five-game regular season schedule that includes an eighteen-game SUNYAC slate. The non-conference games are against teams from the UCHC, independents, and the CCC. Morrisville will also play in the Castleton Tournament on November 24th and 25th.
