The Morrisville Mustangs Women’s Hockey Team opens their regular season on Friday afternoon at Lebanon Valley.

The Morrisville Mustangs Women’s Hockey Team travels to Hersheypark Arena on Friday to open their 2023-24 regular season with a non-conference game against the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EDT.

The Mustangs finished the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 8-16-1 and a SUNYAC mark of 5-13-0. They were 5-5-1 at home and 3-11-0 on the road.

Morrisville enters the season with a new coaching staff behind the bench. John Briggs has taken over as head coach from Melissa Lomanto – who has been the bench boss since 2014. Briggs comes to the Mustangs after serving as an assistant coach for Cortland Women’s Hockey, who are also in the SUNYAC.

The Mustangs also have a new assistant coach as Monica Cahill takes over that position from Michelle VanSlyke. Like Briggs, Cahill comes to Morrisville from Cortland, where she just finished her playing career.

The Roster

Morrisville was a relatively young team last season and has returned most of its core. The team’s top three scorers, forwards Allie Davidson (twelve goals + seven assists), Hailee Easson (seven goals + seven assists), and Rhys Brown (ten goals + three assists) are back to lead the offense. As a team, Morrisville scored fifty-four goals last season, which averaged out to be 2.2 per game.

The Mustangs were excellent on the power play in 2022-23, converting on 21.5% of their power play opportunities.

The defense corps is led by Kate Mabey. The junior defender was fourth on the Mustangs in points with one goal and twelve assists for thirteen points. Mabey has been named the new captain of the Mustangs for the 2023-24 season.

In goal, all three Morrisville goaltenders from last season have returned for 2023-24. Emma Plett, Maggie Jones, and Elizabeth Timby will once again compete for time in the Mustang’s crease. Jones started the most games last season with fifteen, followed by Plett with eight and Timby with six.
