New Jersey Devils re-sign two Utica Comets

Forwards Brian Halonen and Samuel Laberge are staying in the New Jersey Devils as both have been re-signed to new contracts the team announced on Thursday.

The 25-year-old Halonen made his professional debut with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League in 2022 after playing four seasons at Michigan Tech of the NCAA. His new contract is a two-year, two-way contract that carries an AAV of $775,000 at the NHL level. Halonen was originally signed as an undrafted free agent.

Halonen made his NHL debut in 2023-24, getting two games in with the Devils. In 35 games with the Comets this season, he had 20 goals, nine assists, 19 PIM, and was a +5.

Laberge signed a one-year, two-way contract with an AAV of $775,000, after signing a similar contract with New Jersey in 2023-24. Like Halonen, he made his NHL debut with New Jersey this past season, playing in two games for the Devils. In 59 games for Utica, the 27-year-old Laberge had six goals, 13 assists, 92 PIM, and was a +1.

Both Halonen and Laberge will be unrestricted free agents at the end of their contracts.
