New Jersey Devils recall two from the Utica Comets

The New Jersey Devils have recalled defenseman Cal Foote and forward Shane Bowers from Utica of the AHL the team announced on Tuesday.

The New Jersey Devils placed defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler on injured reserve on Tuesday, and are also missing forwards Jack Hughes and Ondrej Palat. To help deal with their injury woes, the Devils have recalled defenseman Cal Foote and forward Shane Bowers from their AHL affiliate the Utica Comets.

Cal Foote signed with the Devils in the offseason and has played exclusively for the Comets this season. In twenty-four games for Utica, the twenty-five-year-old has two goals, seven assists, seventeen PIM, and is a -14.

Foote was drafted in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has played 141 NHL games with the Lightning and Nashville Predators, totaling five goals, fourteen assists, and 121 PIM. He also played five seasons for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.

Bowers was acquired by the Devils for defenseman Reilly Walsh in an offseason trade with the Boston Bruins. Like Foote, he is a former NHL first-round pick – the Ottawa Senators selected him twenty-eighth overall in the 2017 Entry Draft. He has one career NHL game, which was in the 2022-23 season with the Colorado Avalanche.

The twenty-four-year-old center is in his seventh American Hockey League season. Prior to coming to the Comets, he played for the Providence Bruins and Colorado Avalanche. In twenty-nine games with the Comets this season, Bowers has six goals (two are shorthanded), one assist, eight PIM, and is a -5. He is a key member of the Utica Comets league-best penalty-killing unit.

The Comets are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Laval to face the Rocket. For more information about the Utica Comets, including ticketing and schedules, visit
