Nico Daws recalled by the New Jersey Devils

Goaltender Nico Daws was recalled on Sunday afternoon by the New Jersey Devils from the Utica Comets of the AHL.

Utica Comets goaltender got an unexpected call-up to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon. He is backing up Akira Schmid in the Devils home game against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night. Daws and Schmid were the Utica Comets goaltending tandem for most of the 2021-22 season.

The Daws recall happened in the wake of an injury to New Jersey goaltender Vitek Vanecek. Devils reporter Amanda Stein reported on her X account that Vanecek “felt off physically this morning” and that is not illness-related. She also reported the team decided to hold him out tonight.
