The conference tournament matchups for CNY Division III teams

The conference tournaments begin this week for Central New York Division III hockey teams. The Utica Pioneers Men’s and Women’s teams start on Wednesday, while Hamilton (Men and Women), Oswego (Men and Women), and Morrisville (Women) begin on Saturday. Here are each team’s opening-round matchups at a glance.

The Utica Pioneers

Men

  • Conference: UCHC.
  • Overall record: 20-2-3.
  • UCHC record: 19-0-1.
  • Seed: #1.
  • Opponent: #8 Nazareth Golden Flyers (6-17-2 overall, 5-13-2 UCHC).
  • Date/time/location: Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 pm at the Adirondack Bank Center.
  • Tournament schedule: Quarterfinals (February 21), Semifinals (February 24), Championship (March 2).

The Pioneers swept a home in home series from the Golden Flyers at the end of January, winning 7-0 and 4-2.

#5 Utica Pioneers Men’s Hockey shuts down Nazareth

Women

  • Conference: UCHC.
  • Overall record: 20-3-2.
  • UCHC record: 16-2-2.
  • Seed: #2.
  • Opponent: #7 Chatham Cougars (10-10-3 overall, 8-10-2 UCHC).
  • Date/time/location: Wednesday, February 21 at 4:00 pm at the Utica University Nexus Center.
  • Tournament schedule: Quarterfinals (February 21), Semifinals (February 24), Championship (March 2).

Utica swept both regular season games played at Chatham 5-1 and 7-1 at the beginning of February.

The Hamilton College Continentals

Men

  • Conference: NESCAC.
  • Overall record: 16-7-1.
  • NESCAC record: 11-6-1.
  • Seed: #4.
  • Opponent: #5 Amherst Mammoths (14-9-1 overall, 9-8-0 NESCAC).
  • Date/time/location: Saturday, February 24 at 1:00 pm at Russell Sage Rink.
  • Tournament schedule: Quarterfinals (February 24), Semifinals (March 2), Championship (March 3).

The Continentals swept both regular-season games against the Mammoths, winning 3-0 and 7-6.

Women

  • Conference: NESCAC.
  • Overall record: 13-5-6.
  • NESCAC record: 6-5-5.
  • Seed: #4.
  • Opponent: #5 Trinity Bantams (15-6-2 overall, 8-6-2 NESCAC).
  • Date/time/location: Saturday, February 24 at 4:30 pm at Russell Sage Rink.
  • Tournament schedule: Quarterfinals (February 24), Semifinals (March 1), Championship (March 2).

The Continentals and Bantams played each other twice in the regular season. Hamilton won the first game, and the teams skated to a 1-1 tie the next day.

The Oswego St. Lakers

Men

  • Conference: SUNYAC.
  • Overall record: 16-8-1.
  • SUNYAC record: 12-4-0.
  • Seed: #2.
  • Opponent: to be determined. The Lakers have a first-round bye and host the highest seed remaining from #3 Plattsburgh vs #6 Potsdam or #4 Cortland vs #5 Brockport on Saturday, February 24.
